  87.    To install the program follow the instructions below:
  88.  
  89.    1. Start your computer and make sure you are at the dos prompt.
  90.    2. Insert the DRAFT CHOICE diskette in Drive A or B.
  91.    3. Type A: (or B:, depending on step 2, above) and press ENTER
  92.    4. Type INSTALL, press ENTER and follow the on-screen instructions.

  94. STARTING THE PROGRAM

  96. DRAFT CHOICE is started from DOS using the command:
  97.  
  98.   A>  DC /Option1/Option2/Option3/.....     [ENTER]

  102. ON-DISK USER'S MANUAL
  103. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  104. The installation process extracts a file called DC20.MAN.  This is a 
  105. ready-to-print user's manual that you can use for evaluating your 
  106. shareware copy of DRAFT Choice.  (Note that this is not a substitute for 
  107. the 200+ page bound professional manual you receive when you register 
  108. the program)
  109.  
  110. The on-disk user's manual has been formatted to print properly on most 
  111. dot matrix and laserjet printers. 
  112.  
  113. Once you have completed the installation of the program, you may print 
  114. the user's manual using the DOS COPY command, e.g.,
  115.  
  116.        COPY  DC20.MAN  PRN 
  117.  
  118. Please, make sure you have at least 80 sheets of paper available in 
  119. your printer before you issue the above command.

  123. A NOTE ON PLOTTING
  124. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  125. The maximum number of dots that can be handled by DRAFT Choice 
  126. (when plotting to a printer), is based on a 360 dpi and 13" max 
  127. plot width (hex density on 24-pin printers).  The string of bytes 
  128. sent to the printer for each line is preceded and followed by 2 
  129. bytes (4-bytes total) which are needed by the program.

  131. If a user is trying to plot a 16" wide drawing on a 9-pin 
  132. printer (high density), the max number of dots sent is [240 dpi * 
  133. 16"] + 4 = 3844 dots.  Some printer buffers, however, cannot 
  134. handle any more that 3840 dots per line and the results, on such 
  135. printers, would be unpredictable.

  137. If the user wishes to make sure that such a printer buffer 
  138. overflow will not occur, in the example given above, then the 
  139. width should be set to something slightly less that 16" (e.g., 
  140. 15.95 inches).

  144.           NEW FEATURES in Ver 2.0 (NOT IN THE MANUAL)

  146. 1.  A new toggle switch is available Options, Toggle, EXTENTS.  
  147.     If EXTENTS is OFF, then an Image, All command sets the viewing 
  148.     window based on the scale/drawing border.  If it is ON then Image, 
  149.     All sets the viewing window based on the calculated extents of 
  150.     the drawing elements.

  152. 2.  When File selection dialogs are displayed, a file may now be 
  153.     selected by quickly double clicking on the file name.
  154.  
  155. 3.  UNDO is no longer limited to Edit, Delete operations!  
  156.     Furthermore, multiple UNDOs are now possible.  Created/Modified 
  157.     elements are placed in an UNDO buffer.  By repeatedly selecting 
  158.     UNDO, you can now Un-Draw, Un-Move, Un-Delete and in general 
  159.     reverse any previous action.  When the UNDO buffer is full, new 
  160.     actions get added to the buffer, while the 'oldest' ones get 
  161.     eliminated.  The user may PURGE the UNDO buffer at any time.  
  162.     CAUTION:  When the UNDO buffer is purged, any operations prior 
  163.     to that point cannot be UNDONE!

  165. 4.  When entering RELATIVE coordinates, if a third coordinate (Z) is 
  166.     specified then X and Z are interpreted as isometric coordinates, 
  167.     based on the current ISO angle (default is 30 degrees).
  168.     
  169. 5.  The maximum dot line buffer was increased to 4680 in order to 
  170.     support hex density on 24-pin, wide carriage printers, i.e., max 
  171.     image width = 13" x 360 dpi = 4680 dots. 
  172.  
  173. 6.  When specifying hatching patterns, in the DC.PAT file, the 
  174.     horizontal and vertical displacement is indirectly, tied to the 
  175.     drawing units through the 'SPACE' parameter in the Option, Style, 
  176.     or Alter, Style sub-menus. 
  177.  
  178. 7.  A new option is available under Measure, Dimension, Setup.  This 
  179.     new option specifies that there will be no dimension line drawn 
  180.     and that the dimension will be placed parallel to the second end 
  181.     point specified. 
  182.  
  183. 8.  When importing VALUE files, if a third coordinate (Z) is specified 
  184.     then X and Z are interpreted as isometric coordinates, based on 
  185.     the current ISO angle (default is 30 degrees), and relative to the 
  186.     X=0, Y=0  origin.

  189.      Major New Features/Modifications in DRAFT Choice Ver 2.0a
  190. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  191. 1.  A modification was made to eliminate redundant SP0 commands 
  192.     while sending output to a plotter or when creating an HPGL 
  193.     file.  This should significantly reduce pen holder movement 
  194.     and reduce plotting time. 
  195.  
  196. 2.  The Array Volume command was expanded to support Spline, 
  197.     Bezier, Polygons and Tape object types (instead of only 
  198.     complex line types).
  199.  
  200. 3.  A modification was made so that now the AUTOLOAD.SYM symbol 
  201.     library (if one exists) is loaded automatically every time a 
  202.     File, New command is executed.
  203.  
  204. 4.  The /DCH= command line switch (to automatically load a 
  205.     drawing when the program is started) was re-enabled.
  206.  
  207. 5.  A modification was made to make use of the function keys, 
  208.     during drawing, available to the user.
  209.     
  210. 6.  The symbols currently loaded in RAM are now alphabetically 
  211.     sorted.  A Symbol now needs to be selected by highlighting 
  212.     the icon bar, instead of simply using a key letter, so that 
  213.     the Cancel Hot key (C) will always be accessible.

  215. 7.  The Freehand drawing command was modified as follows: 
  216.      
  217.     - The maximum number of vertices of the created 
  218.       polyline was increased from 100 to 200.
  219.  
  220.     - A new option variable, DRATE, was added to the 
  221.       Complex Setup menu.  This variable allows the user 
  222.       to specify the number of pixels that may be 
  223.       traversed before a new point is issued, (the default 
  224.       is two pixels).

  226. 8.  The color mapping was changed to result in visible function 
  227.     key display status on White/Grey mono EGA systems. 
  228.  
  229. 9.  The path for DC.PAT, DC.LIN files is now obtained from the 
  230.     DOS command line (just like the DC.PCX file), i.e., they are 
  231.     not automatically assumed to be in the default directory.
